For this project, I researched the best non-fiction/informational texts available for kindergarten through fifth grade. My research focused on non-fiction in a variety of formats including print books, electronic-books, databases, websites, iPad apps and videos. I compiled my recommendations of best resources into annotated bibliographies or "resource clusters" that are now available to all elementary teachers in Ithaca City Schools via this website. These resource clusters are aligned with Next Generation Science Standards and New York State Social Studies Standards and all can be used to support Common Core Standards. All of the lists are organized by grade level in the tabs above. Within your grade-level, click on a subject of interest to find a list of leveled informational texts, websites, lesson plans, and database articles that can support you in your teaching.
If you are interested in any of the materials listed contact your building librarian who will be more than willing to collaborate with you! Your librarian can help you to access resources that are not available at your school through inter-library loan. All database usernames and passwords are also available from your building librarian. My project, hosted here for your convenience, consists of over 600 pages of recommended non-fiction materials.
